The Summer I Turned Pretty

The Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy

Includes: The Summer I Turned Pretty, It’s Not Summer Without You, We’ll Always Have Summer

 Jenny Han

Main Characters:

Isobel Conklin – aka Belly.

Jeremiah Fisher – younger of the two brothers.

Conrad Fisher – oldest of the two brothers.

The series begins at the begining of the summer Belly turns 16. She arrives at the beach house she, her mother and brother stay at every summer with her mom’s best friend and her sons (Conrad and Jeremiah). Belly has had a crush on Conrad for as long as she can remember but was always left out of the boys plans as she was the only girl. This summer is different because she is finally seen by the Fisher brothers as a girl, not a little sister. She dates, spends time with the guys, and realizes all she missed not being a part of the boys club the summers before.  They all have friends from the town and know people she has never met all her summers at the beach.  She also discovers all is not well in the Fisher family.  This summarizes the first books. I don’t want to give away too much of the later books but they follow Belly as she and the Fisher brothers deal with the loss of a loved one,  her first year at college, her love for both brothers, and then her wedding.

If you’re looking for a heart tugging teen story about first loves, this is a good choice. I personally love a good teen novel though I am well into my 30’s. It brings back memories of crushes and the drama of them! The characters are likeable even despite some stupid decisions. There are so many aspects that I think everyone can relate to! For me, in one part Belly’s brother Steven, Conrad, and Jeremiah pick on a guy Belly is seeing and it makes her not like him as much.  I had that happen but it was my cousin doing it!

It’s a teen drama so some of the things that happen are blown out of proportion when reading as an adult. But that’s really how teen drama is so it’s not a huge con!

I give this series 4 out of 5 Book Loves because I couldn’t put it down.  It brought out lots of feelings and memories for me! It has a few small flaws but nothing that would stop me from reading it again!
